He holds a degree (MSc) in Biological Sciences from the University of Ancona. Expert
in efficiency and selectivity research; fishing gear technology; fishing gear design;
physical and biological impacts produced in the marine environment by human activities.
He has been responsible scientist or involved in several EU and national research
projects on bottom trawl performance and selectivity. He has published in many international
journals and he is on the scientific committee of the international conferences
on fishing engineering IMAM 2007. Since 2005 he is head of the Fishing Technology
Unit at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR, Ancona) of the National Research
Council (CNR). He is member of the National Commission Unitex SC140 ”Fishing nets”,
for the standardization of the European textile sector within the Technical committee
CEN/TC248 “Textiles and textile products”. Since 1994 he has been chief Examinator
for Professional Fisheries license issue by the Port Authority of Ancona and Civitanova
Marche (MC), Italy. He attended as expert scientist some STECF- or EU-Working Groups
and many other international and national committees on fishing gear technology.
Since 1999 he is stand member of the Italian Society of Marine Biology and since
2002 he is an official Member of the ICES Working Group on Fishing Technology and
Fishing Behaviour.

He holds a degree (MSc) in Biological Sciences from the University of Ancona in
1998. Since 1998, he collaborates with the Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR,
Ancona) of the National Research Council (CNR). He has experience on small scale
artisanal fisheries, rapido trawling and artificial reefs. In the last decades he
acquired knowledge on trawl selectivity and on netting material properties. He has
been member of the development staff in several National and European gear related
research projects. He is in charge of the Technological Training Courses of Italian
Coast Guard fishery inspectors. Since 2000 he is member of the Italian Society of
Marine Biology.

He has over 30 years of experience as net-maker. Since the 1980s he collaborates
with the Fishing Technology Unit. He has practical experience in fishing gear design
