He holds a degree (MSc) in Biological Sciences at the II University of Rome in 1990. From 1990 to 1995 he had a fellowship at the Central Institute of Marine Research (ICRAM) in fishery biology, being involved in several aspects of biology and ecology of Antarctic and Mediterranean fishes. He participated to field activities and laboratory work within  research programs concerning fish resources management and biological conservation in marine protected areas. Since 1996 he has a permanent position of scientist at IRPEM (now Institute of Marine Science, ISMAR) of the National Research Council (CNR). Currently he is involved as principal investigator (PI) or co-PI in studies on age determination, reproductive biology and feeding ecology of Antarctic and Mediterranean fish species funded by the EC, MIUR and PNRA. He works together with foreign scientists on Antarctic topics, having participated  to international Antarctic research cruises in the Ross Sea (Italy, aboard of Italica), in the South Shetland islands (Germany, aboard of Polarstern) and Antarctic Peninsula (USA, aboard of Yuzhmorgeologya). In Italy, he collaborates with other colleagues from University (Ancona, Trieste, Genova) and CNR Institutes. Since 2006, he is in the Executive Board of the polar network of CNR (Polarnet). He collaborates as reviewer for several peer-review journal on fisheries and polar science. Finally, he is author/coauthor of more than 40 publications on peer review journal (JCR).

She has a Degree in Biological Sciences - Marine and Oceanographic Biology obtained at Polytechnic University of Marche, Ancona. At present she is a Doctoral student in Marine Biology and Ecology in the same University and a part time Technologist in the Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR, Ancona) of the National Research Council (CNR). Her main research fields include taxonomy, zoology and ecology of benthic organisms, with special interest on Crustacea Decapoda. Since December 2006 she collaborates with the ISMAR-CNR Ancona. She deals with the development, the maintenance and the expansion of the database concerning Italian and European legislation on Fishery, commercialization of Fisheries production, resources management and environmental conservation. She is also involved in coastal zones management programs.

I hold a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Biological Sciences from Bristol University (UK); an M.Sc. degree in Aquatic Resource Management from King’s College London (UK) and a Ph.D. degree in Marine Biology from London University (University Marine Biological station Millport, UK). Towards the completion of my PhD, I undertook research on the specific topic “Aspects of the impact of hydraulic dredging for the clam Chamelea gallina in Italian waters”. I have been employed at ISMAR-CNR in the Fishery Biology Unit since 2000, initially as a Ph.D student and more recently as a post-doctoral research scientist (since 2005). My main aim is that of carrying out useful, rigorous ecological research towards the management of marine fisheries. The core of my research experience to date regards the investigation of benthic and fish communities in relation to fisheries management: (i) the analysis of fishing impacts on the macrobenthic communities associated to clam stocks in the Adriatic Sea; (ii) the evaluation of differential fishing impacts of deep sea lobster communities through the use of trawls, creels, and towed and static underwater television (UWTV); (iii) the detection of nursery areas and the investigation of the impacts of fry fisheries on adult sardine and anchovy stocks; (iv) time series analysis of fisheries catches and survey biomasses in relation to environmental factors.
